Why Should I Back Towers of Arkhanos?
- Easy to learn mechanics with an interesting take on dice placement
- Plenty of ways to mitigate dice in interesting ways that add to the strategic play
- The playtime for this game needs to be praised. I’ve seen games like this tack on mechanics just to make the game longer, but the playtime is perfect. Thirty minutes of fun and done.
- I would like to see more meeple and tile types to give the game more substance. Having more interesting strategic choices beyond the base game is a huge selling point.
Towers of Arkhanos has a lot of potential. October is very busy month on Kickstarter and a game like this, even with its solid design and attractive art, it could be easily overlooked. If you see this game in your “recommended for you” section, I encourage you to take a closer look. I’m always searching for games that attract a wider range of gamers. I think ToA is the type of game that fits the family friendly and casual gamer market, maybe beyond that. I don’t think anything is wrong with the game at all, but it needs more meat on the bone for my tastes. Without alternative tile types and meeples, I’m a little on the fence.
I looked at the Kickstarter page before finishing this preview. The game funded and already unlocked several meeple types with their own activation rules. That’s all this game really needs. If they keep crushing these goals, it looks like they will bring more replay value to it. That’s really what I was worried about. I played the prototype about five times and I never felt like it was stale, but you want to make sure that there is more to look forward after a couple plays. Check out Towers of Arkhanos if you’re looking for a light strategy game with interesting mechanics and beautiful presentation. I can’t tell you what to do with your money, but hopefully I helped you make an informed decision today. Thank you for your time.
